Inspiration for the Royale
Collection came from the Beaux Arts movement of the late 19th century. In English,
the French term “beaux arts” translates to “fine arts.”
Founded on teachings from the renowned École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, the
style flourished between 1885 and 1920. Broadly speaking, it also refers to the
American Renaissance period from about 1890 to 1920 and also includes the
French Renaissance, Italian Renaissance, and Neoclassical Revivals.
During those days, before the introduction of income tax, the exceedingly
wealthy were substantiated by their increasingly ornate and expensive houses.
The movement was extremely influential in the United States in that many of their
leading late 19th century architects were trained at École des Beaux-Arts.
At home in the U.S., these ideas contributed to the development of planned
suburbs including extensive parks and broad, manicured boulevards edged with great,
showcase houses. Boston Public Library, New York's Grand Central Terminal, and
the New York Public Library are celebrated examples of the Beaux Arts style.
The Royale Collection derives from many of the Beaux Arts architectural
elements, namely the ceiling tiles, crown moldings, and medallions found throughout
Europe. This regal collection is crafted from Birch solids, butt cherry veneers
and has multi-framed panels of floral rosette medallions and dusty,
gold-painted overlays. The collection ignites a rich and luxurious with features
such as shell and acanthus leaf molding; acanthus leaf and scroll pilaster
shafts, capitals and feet. The Beaux Arts captures and expresses the taste and
values of America's industrial barons.
